Uniforms to be worn by Olympic hostesses and flag raisers.

Traditional Chinese cultural elements will highlight the victory ceremonies at the Olympic Games.

The organizers yesterday announced the designs for uniforms to be worn by the hostesses, decoration of podiums, bouquets and certificates.

The uniform for the hostesses feature different Chinese cultural images, such as blue-and-white porcelain, embroidery, peony flowers and jade.

The uniform for the flag raisers will be white.

The final designs were selected from more 300 submitted in a competition held between May and July last year.

The podiums will be bright yellow, bearing the core image of the Beijing Games, the lucky cloud.

The bouquets will consist of nine China roses. Nine means long lasting in Chinese.

The design for the certificates for the top eight finishers also features traditional Chinese arts. The certificates are printed on traditional xuan paper and are framed in silk.
